UNDERTOW

The ocean contains multitudes. I have no clear understanding of its depth and breadth, both literally and figuratively. It is truly another world. It is also potentially deadly, even for those who wander just a few feet off the shore. My thrill of being in the water is tempered by this threat. At the same time, there is something primal and deeply satisfying about swimming in the ocean, which connects me to the elemental origins of our planet. There is a sense of awe that I experience when immersed in the ocean. This is a perfect encapsulation of what I understand to be the "sublime."
