cinéma de mes rêves

“A story should have a beginning, a middle and an end... but not necessarily in that order.”
  Jean-Luc Godard

This series is a tribute to my love of cinema, especially the work of the French New Wave, as exemplified by François Truffaut, Agnes Varda and Jean-Luc Godard. This body of work is the result of a years-long exploration of moving images. I discovered a wealth of public domain movies online, and used the library of films as a launching point for my own artwork. I studied hours of films, and began to re-photograph specific moments I found visually interesting and contained a nugget of narrative potential. From there, I manipulated the photographs to create quadtychs. Four frames from the original photo, exploring details of blur, grain and contrast. Finally, I crafted subtitles for each panel, conveying some of my inner thoughts or memories that were triggered by the imagery. The series seen here are available in a limited edition box set, to purchase, click here. The work will be featured in a solo exhibition at Chatter in Albuquerque, NM, opening on May 5, 2023.
